Bell house bolts on Cummins auto same as the old 383 torkflite?
Hello,,
Well I got blowen out of the saddle on the idea of droping my eBay 4bt 3.3L Cummins in my 98 Ram,.. So Im looking at putting it in my old 1951 IHC pu. Now I have a good TorkFlite 727 off a 383,, 400 big block Mopar in the shop.. Would all the bolts line up?? I know I would have to get the block adapter,, but they seem to be all over eBay, for the auto trans and the 5 speeds.
If you do not know, who would know.. ????
Do not think I crazy,, just a little off plumb..
Sodbust.

I think that would be a better trade. would it fit, I dont know. I would imagine as long as you could get a bell houseing that fits both tranny and engine you would be good.
my only concern for an automatic is while the 4BT is not produceing as much HP as a 383 or 400, the torque it is produceing at the lower RPM is MUCH greater than what the 400 is at the same RPM. my fear is you might break something in that 727. now if your going to go with the 5 speed option, if you can find one, a NV4500 would match REAL nice. it is tough enough to live behind the ISB so the 4BT would not be a problem. I dont think the NV3500 would work since once again, the low end torque the 4BT develops becomes a problem.
Once you get that 4BT in that old 51 IHC I bet you would be the envy of many people. Ive even consitered putting a 4BT in my little toyota, but the weight of the engine poses a problem on the suspension, plus I would have to find a different rear axel and drive shaft, that little 4BT would snap it like a twig
