Default NEW MEMBER - Thinking about an 06 4x4 w/cummings eng

Im currently driving an 01 Dakota 4x4 with the 4.7L motor, and I've been thinking about getting the 2500 w/the cummins motor for sometime now. I've heard the ford diesels are having problems and the chevys are just boring looking... BTW is there a noticable difference between the 3.73 and 4.10 gears?

Thanks,

Mark

I have an 05 with a 3.73 and am happy with the performance.
If you plan on doing a lot of towing the 4.10 would be the better choice IMHO.

I have the 4.10's behind the 6spd. starting with the 05.5's the only way to get 4.10's was with the auto. the G-56 is geared so high the engine would be tached out just to hit decent highway speeds with the 4.10's. before the G-56 you had the NV5600 which was geared low enough to run 4.10's however at 70mph I'm running 2300rpm. I would love to run lower RPM's since the engine can easily handle running 70-80 below 2K.

the 3.73's do well when towing, however if you plan on doing alot of heavy towing, the 4.10's would be better.

which ever one you do get you will not be dissapointed. it is amazing how fast this 7500# beast can hit 70 rowing through 6 gears towing 8K

If you tow often, and heavy loads, you will benefit from the 4.10 ratio, other than that IMO there is no reason to go with the 4.10.
