looks like you have a winner. and for that price you have a steal.
only things I would be worried about would be #1, shaft end play #2, getting the exhaust to fit up to it. the 2001 has a 3.5(I think) exhaust where as the 04's have a 4 inch.
this turbo is an upgrade BTW. the one you have is a HY35 this one is an HX35. slightly larger compressor for more air

Drew,
would an exhaust turndown be available for the hx35 (that clamps on)
to go to my son's 3.5 exhaust pipe (if that is what it is).?
anybody have a part #? or source?
called the local dodge dealer and they want vin's.
couldn't tell me different sizes of turndowns.
mention hx35 or hy35 and they have no clue.

i measured the old turbo exhaust turndown, it is 3.5" OD as Drew mentioned.
if we get the hx35 turbo with the larger turndown, we will need to weld a 4" flanged pipe to his existing front down pipe. (he has an aftermarket 4" system on it, which goes from 3.5" to 4").
anyone know where we can get the 4" flange that secures the down pipe to the turbo?
is it sold seperately?
it seems to me they should be available if someone overtightened it and cracked it.
thanks,
david
p.s. all the dealer has is the 4" front downpipe and converter all welded as one unit.

good to hear about the IC. You'll like that super B turbo, it'll make that truck a whole different beast. it is more efficient than the HY35 that came stock, that alone might give more power and if you able to keep your foot out of it better fuel mileage.
hopefully it will come with the 4" down pipe you need since the exhaust turbine houseing is larger. begining with 04.5 (the so called 600 engine) the entire exhaust system is 4" where as with the previous 04 ("555") engine the down tube was 3.5 inch, but then went to 4 inch.
if anything you may have to have the down tube flange welded to the rest of the exhaust.
If your son wanted to have more fun with the truck and add on any aftermarket performance boxes this will give him more head room in terms of how much he can add. in stock form the turbo can only handle about 80-100 extra HP before things get out of hand. the super B can handle MUCH more since it is able to flow more air.
