Default Over Boost?!

well i've had my 98 ram 3500 CYD for about two months now and i've done alot of reserch on them for quite some time now.

i've noticed that the max boost i've ever encountered has been around 18-19 psi. i ran the truck pretty hard about a week ago and now my max boost pressure has jumped to about 23-24 psi when under load.

my reserch tells me that i HAD normal boost press. at 18.
so is the wastegate not working properly? i hav'nt noticed any difference in acceleration (better or worse) .
is the wastgate electronicly controlled?
any ideas on why all of a sudden i have more boost and is there any chance of damaging anything because of this?
thanks for your input

the waste gate on your truck is pneumaticaly controlled from the boost itself.

sometimes the spring becomes a bit laggy and higher boost numbers are reached, is it dangerous, no, but I wouldnt suggest going over 35# with your turbo.

For what its worth, I have an 05 and when I get on the freeway the boost goes to around 30# but drops back to around 20# or so.
Usual cruising boost is around 6-8

the 600's and 610's will max out at 35# and the waste gate opens at 26#. my 04.5 will nail 35# easy and back down to 26#
