Default 2004 3500 cummins transmission swap

Will a Getrag G360 5 speed manual transmission fit in a 2004 3500? My NV5600 has gone out for the 3rd time! Thanks in advance for any info.

What is the cause of your NV5600 going out 3 times? Yes the Getrag 360 will bolt to the Cummins but it is a far weaker transmission, you will also have to do some crossmeber and driveshaft modifications, and I am not sure if the transfer case will bolt to it or not.

Honestly I'm not sure...I bought the truck recently and this is the 1st time it messed up on me but the guy I bought it from said he's had it rebuilt twice already...would I be better to just replace it with the same Trans instead of having this one fixed? Or would you recommend maybe a 5 speed like the NV4500? Thank you for replying also. I can use any advice you have to offer

I would get the NV5600 rebuilt or buy a reman from a reputable company like Midwest transmission, or Superstick transmission.

Thank you for the input. When I looked up what the best transmission was for a 5.9 cummins it said the Getrag 5 speed. That's why I was curious about it. But I will definitely keep the 5600 or replace it with another one. This is the first dodge diesel I've ever owned so I don't know whats what with it. I have pretty much had 7.3 Fords for a while but this truck is a workhorse and it only has 150,000 miles on it so it's a keeper...lol. Once again I really appreciate it man.
