Hydroboost/Power Steering Questions
2011 2500 4x4 Cummins
Just replaced the entire front end on this truck. There's still significant steering wheel slop. Ordered a steering gear (red variety), steering brace, new intermediate shaft (some play in U-joint) and a new gearbox-to-hydroboost pressure hose (small leak at the hose crimp)
Has anyone added a filter into the system? Will this affect hydroboost power brakes because it causes some restriction? Where is the best place to add it? Currently im thinking the best place would be one of the lines coming in or out of the cooler (return pressure), because I would think any debris would settle there at the lowest point in the system? What type of filter is recommended?
Also, what is the correct way to bleed the power steering system after gear/hose replacement? It will be completely drained.
Lastly, I have changed the fluid once with ATF +4. Is this sufficient to keep using?
The only trucks I work on have air brakes, hydroboost is new to me.
Thanks for any help!
