Default 1997 ram 2500 4x4 5.9 liter diesel

Can anyone tell me the easiest way to tell the difference between the A518/46re transmission & the A618/47re ? Also if all A518 are 46re & all A618 is 47re?

If you own a 1997 5.9 Diesel its a 47RE. They use a big block sized bolt pattern. A 46RE wouldn't even bolt up without major modifications, if they even exist. Someone with more knowledge will chime in, I'm not familiar with the A518/A618 reference, I think those are from the early 46RH/47RH days, pre 2nd gen chassis and aren't the same as a 46/47RE
