Default diesel won,t go past 2200rpm

my father in law has a 2000 cummins with 80.000 on it and now it will stop the engine at 2200 rpms on and off normaly on the free way or goes int idle ,seems like some safe mode but he took to the dealer and as per normal they found nothing ,no codes fuel pump??

Could be the fuel filter. If you haven't changed it in 80k miles, it needs changing anyway.

glenn is right. . .that would be the first thing to check, next would be to have the lift pump pressure checked. if the pressure is to low it will kill the VP44 pump.

cool ill let him know if not ill go up there and take a look at it ,another weird thing is it does it with the cruse control on , but if the pump is not getting any fuel it prob dont matter

it sounds like it is in high gear only when this happens its is probbly fuel but there is somthing we have came across recently brother put a new fuel filter in his truck witch is a 2000 auto truck and his fuel pressure droped way down got a new filter and press when right back up 1st filter was from advanced 2nd from napa we went to advanced got a new 1 made in bulgaria (pardon my spelling) and cut it apart took the paper out and fuel wouldnt pass through it with gravity i can just amgine how mutch presser it would take for fuel to be pushed thru that filter and i wonder how many people have burnt out factory lift pumps and vp44s becuase of buying these ****ty filters that are trying to serice there trucks the way they should

thats when you hit up geno's garage and get some of their fleetguard filters

im goin up there to washington in 3 weeks so ill try that,i do know gion cheap on filters can be bad so i will find out what filter he put on it
