go redneck style and get the $47 NAPA 2790 air filter. that is what I have on my truck and it works just as good.

along with that filter, you can get the AFe torque tube for $80 on Ebay and build a stage 2 for a 1/3 of the cost.

How does that redneck setup do on dirt roads with lots of dust? Most of my driving will be on dirt road so I don't want something that's going to get clogged in five minutes.

if you look through the pictures of my post about the coolant leak you will see the size of the filter. also if you do a search for a thread titled, "I would like to intorduce you too. . ." you will get a better picture if the size difference.

one thing that makes this filter a bit better is the surface area. the air moveing across the media is moving so slow the filtration rate is going to be better, and not only that but as the filter builds up dust and debris it will filter smaller and smaller particles. but then it will be clogged fully not long after that

to clean the filter all you need is an air hose and blow the filter off from the inside. The outer wear you hear alot of people talk about does help in filtration is dusty areas, however, I would just use the filter itself for a few days. then pull the intake tubeing off, if you see any dirt or other stuff inside the tube then install the outerwear, if not you know the filter is doing its job.

I put a K&N system on my old '01 Chevy 6.0L gasser and I loved it. It gave me a little better mileage, little more power, but I loved the sound it made. I'm looking for something to help this diesel breathe better, but like you I don't want to spend that much for it.
