Not good...at least not with the Cummins diesel. It's too heavy for the 1/2 ton suspension. It weighs around 400lbs MORE than the HEMI...almost double the HEMI's weight.

There is a possibility of putting a smaller Mercedes diesel in the 1/2 tons, but it wouldn't be the towing monster that the Cummins is.

actualy, Cummins did make a few 4.2L V6 and 5.6L V8's that dodge used to test Diesels in the 1500's. the power numbers were pretty respectable and the V8 did push 300hp and 560 or so ft-lb.

the engines were designed just for the 1500's and were made light enough to where no suspension, frame, or body modifications were needed.

the question though is this. Would Cummins build an engine for one purpose only and would DC realisticaly pass the cost onto the consumer? the 5.9L is found in the agricultural area, line haul trucks, box trucks, F-650's, FL60's and other medium duty trucks. These engines would be most likely horrably expensive due to their specific application.

Would Cummins and DC do it. . .probably not, but if they did Dodge would have the market with 1500's equiped with diesels.
