Is this the '94-'97 style with the round buttons in the steering wheel?
If it is, you need new buttons.
Usually they stick after you push the button, but I have heard of them going off on thier own too.

No my truck is a 2004.5 , do you think the edje programmer could be bad , or do you think the shifter might be out of sink with the safety switch that seems to be a hot topic ?

Check your wiring to and from the horn, had someone in New Jersey with the same thing happening. It was either the wire-connection or the switch under the push part on your steering wheel.
Since your altenator went bad so many times it looks like you have a bare wire-short.
Put an Ohm meter on the horn and see if you get any reading when you play with it.... try and do the same where the switch part is.
Last option- remove the fuse from the horn ( i thought it was seperate fused ) and drive for a while without horn.
Feel also if the alternator gets hotter then normal... you should be able to rest your hand on there w/o getting hot.

Iam not a diesel pro but have quit a bit of experience in low voltage wiring etc when it comes to cars and curcuit boards.
But before you take it to a repair shop try the above first since electrical problems diagnostics can run the bill up quite a bit.

Good luck...

Mike
