Default Crappy Mileage, help!

Ok, so....I buy the Edge EZ. Really no mileage gains...hmm, ok whatever because it runs GREAT!! I buy the S&B Cold Air Intake hoping my mileage would go up....no luck at all. I'm averaging around 16MPG on highway and about 11MPG pulling my 17ft enclosed trailer. The truck runs GREAT so its not really bothering me too much. But I mean.....my old '02 Cummins got 19MPG....just kinda frustrated a bit.

If I bought an exhaust, wouldnt that make mileage go up hopefully working in conjunction with the Edge and S&B Intake?

Any input would be great!!!

the exhaust will most likely cause your mileage to go down, that combined with the open intake will hurt economy more than help it.

RedRacer44. I have the same delema. Maybe Drew can answer your question. I had a 2003 Dodge CTD Auto Crew cab Short Bed 4x4. I got 21 mpg empty traveling across the country. I bought a 2005 2wd 6sd CDT in an atempt to get better mileage. I did not. empty at 70 I get 18mpg. If I go 75 it drops considerably. On mine I am told that the new trucks have a lower geared manual tranny which means my truck runs at a higher RPM. Which is not good for mileage. I have a high rear end 3:73s. They say with this new tranny it is like having 4:10s. Also the newer truck has a catalytic converter thanks to the Dang epa folks! With the Cat they have an xtra fuel injection so the fumes will burn cleaner.
This is my third desiel and love them! Regardless of my mileage, but its nice that we get better mileage than a gas engine!

What tranny do you have?
What Dif gears do you have?
Do you have a Cat?

your statment doesnt make sense... you gave up a 4x4 getting 21 mpg in an attempt to get a truck that would do better? If you want fuel economy better than 21, get a small car. I would have stuck with the '03. On a good day with the wind @ my back i'm lucky to get into the 16's (avg). If I ever get better than that great! I cant expect too much from a 7000+ truck pushing wide 33" tires and it's only leveled, not lifted.

I have an 02 4x4 with 35s straight exaust and a superchips programmer......I got my mileage up to 15.8 running the programmer on the low setting and with drews brew. I had an f150 with 33s and true duel exaust and no cats and the best I got was 10.7 so I am compleatly happy with mine..... I might put a drop in K&N but I dont want to open it up anymore than it is ......steve helped me decide that from an earlier tread ................

who me? [sm=groupwave.gif] woo hoo... man I should get a mtn dew for saving you $250~400 bux for an intake it <jk>

seriously though if your going to tow and need to lower your egt's, a CAI is an option.
