Default New Emissions Part

I'm a regular in the 2nd gen section but wanted to tell you guys if you didn't hear already, my dad saw something in the paper, starting 1/1/07, all diesels are going to have an emissions part added on them costing up to an extra $5000 per vehicle. Just some info.

Yeah, there's gonna be a few new emission requirements. It's been brought up a time or two, but basically is an EGR (lovely), a particulate filter (i.e. more to get clogged) that is really expensive to replace if you run the LSD and not the ULSD through it and larger Cat / Cat's. Apparently just 1 tank of the LSD will clog that filter up. Joy!

I know several people who just purchased 2006 Dodge Rams, 2500's and 3500's, with the CTD, for their businesses. They wanted to avoid the 2007 emissions equipment. They really loaded the trucks up with options, as they now plan on keeping the new trucks for 7 to 10+ years, instead of trading in every 3 years as they now do.

I'll just keep my 98 12 Valve, and repair/replace as required to keep it in top shape. The value to me is in the utility and dependability of the truck, not the year model. I also know a number of people who are watching the California Vehicle laws that are projected for the next several years. Just before the VERY RESTRICTIVE Laws go into effect they plan on buying new or Lease Return cars, and keeping them a very long time.
