Default Fuel water drain question.

I am a first time diesel owner. I saw that dodge put out a TSB for the 06 CTD fuel water filter to be drained every month. No big deal I found the drain and saw that it has a drain tube on it. My question is do I just drain this on the ground? Its just water right? Or is their fuel still in the mix. I dont want to be putting fuel on my drive. This might be a silly question but just wanted to know. thanks

See the FAQ: DIY Maint. - Fuel Filter section at the top of this forum. Drew shows how to extend the drain hose so you don't make a mess.

I must admit that I drain mine at the station (on the cement) periodically when I fill up. Pop the hood, check the oil, open the drain, count to 4 (1 Mississippi, 2 Mississippi) and close.

I know, it’s not as environmentally friendly and I can’t check to see if there is actually water (as in drews method).

I've gone to drain mine a few times and found while using the mix, there is almost never any water in the fuel. when i've changed my fuel filter 2 times (so far) there also has not been any water in the fuel, came out looking like diesel.

You don't want to drain it on the driveway, or in public places. Most of what comes out is fuel (hopefully). I had the tech that chaged my oil the other day drain mine. We used an old plastic water bottle. I had very little water in there after 7266 miles (5-6 drops). I hate to say it, but that is unusual for my area. Last truck used to have about a teaspoon full every time I drained (5000miles). I'm thinking about getting another inline fuel / water seperator and filter set up.
