is my truck making the right exhuast temp?
hi,
my name is chris and i am new to this forum. i own a 2001 dodge diesel 3500 2 wheel drive extended cab dually with a 5 speed. i have been doing some upgrades and thought joining a forum might help me out. so far i have a edge box(60 hp upgrade) 4" exhuast from the turbo back. i also have a large cold air intake set up on it. truck has 110k on it.
my first question is this...i have a pyrometer and a boost guage in the truck. i made a longer rod on the waste gate to turn up the boost ( i get around 26-28lbs), but the one thing i noticed with my truck is a get very little exhuast tempature. one of my friends who owns a dodge gets 1300 to 1400 degrees when he really hits it. even if i pull my 20ft enclosed trailer up a hill, i am luck to get 1000. is this a good thing or bad? is it hurting the power of the truck and if so how can i fix it?

I'd ask where the temp probe is located for the EGT gauge. If it's working properly then I'd say look at the fuel situation. Sounds like you might be underfueled. Do you feel any difference with the chip on & off?
Ok dude, good luck.

i put the sensor right where the directions told me to. its right in the header collector and before the turbo. i do fell a difference with the box plugged in. it also smokes more when its plugged in.
Boy, without seeing it I'd say there might be a problem with the gauge? Do those chip defuel at a certain temp? I cannot say for sure with those electronic mods.
Good luck.
Good luck.
Could always get an IR thermometer. AutoZone, Adavance, or one of those folks may have one on the loan program.
Could at least verify that your gauge is working.

high egt's are not good and i'd say that since you have the open exhaust with the CAI, your fine. mine rarely gets past 1100 with the AFE & magnaflow on and it makes awesome power.
