Default Years and problems?

Just wondering what problems are associated with each year of truck from 98.5 and up?

Thanks!

'98.5's I know of 4 things...

1) VP44 injector pumps... they need lots of lubrication, 8~12 oz of MMO should help this out

2) the block code "53" are notorious for cracking. if you find one, it can be fixed but i'm sure it's not cheep

3) tracbars... all 2nd gen stock tracbars have a ball joint on the DS end which wears out pretty quick (4x4 only)

4) automatic trannies... the 47re is not as strong as the 48's from my understanding, it can be built up to fix it and make it more durable.

hope this helps...

The only problem I have with my 98.5 is that as each year passes, I become more and more addicted to it.

Besides that .... I know that taking the front rotors off of the 98's is a bigger pain than the newer models.

have you checked to see if you have one of th "53" blocks? I read a web-page writeup on how to repair it if it does crack. Also it may be good to know what conditions there were when those blocks cracked... IIRC the posters were saying there was a load on it and up some in altitude... dont know how altidude would have anything to do with it... anyways it might be good to do some research on it.

I have no idea if I have a 53 block or what block I have, but either way I doubt there's much I can do about it now. If it cracks, I'll hafta fix it.

The 1 and only downside of these forums is that you MAY wind up learning more than you want to know. Just what I needed ..... one MORE thing to keep me awake at night staring at the cieling fan worrying ....
