Bleeding Fuel System on 98.5 cummins
Hello everyone,
I was curious on how you would bleed air from the fuel system. I noticed that one of my banjo bolts on my fuel filter housing was loose and leaking. I replaced the gaskets and tightend it but i'm not sure if it would've sucked air into the system or not. How would I go about bleeding out the air in the system?
Thanks in advance

That's the electronic fuel pump?
I would imagine if you cracked open the fuel line, on the output side of the filter, then cranked her for about 10 seconds, you'd push air out.
Then, when you go to start it, you may have to crank a second longer, and I'd push the throttle down about half way. She'll sputter, maybe die, then fire right up. Feather that throttle till she smooths out, just don't rev it above 1000 rpms.
Just my 2 cents......your post looked like it was sittin' alone all day.....lol.

Hey Jakebrake...... This guys post reminds me of when the old timers at the fire station would change fuel filters. They never primed them. They had a fuel tank cap with an air fitting, and a small ball valve. They'd screw it on, put about 10 lbs into it, and as soon as fuel poured out of the bleeder, they would tighten it, and the thing didn't waste a crank firing up.....lol.
Oh well, just a long winded story. I talk to myself a lot when Mayfair can't come out and play.............

we still do that, but use a blow gun and a rag on the filler neck. Try cranking it, these engines are pretty good at picking themselves up. If it won't run after about a min or two of cranking (not continous). There should be a small bleeder on the hp pump, if not, start cracking injector lines. Start with #1, loosen fitting at head and crank until fuel comes out. Tighten and move to #2. Keep doing this until engine will stay running. The rest of the holes should clear up by themselves.

Nothing wrong with holes as long as I get to play in them.
