Donny, the guy was truly lucky. I drove by, saw him, told him I'd be back in 5 min to grab a chain since I didnt have one with me at the time, grabbed one of my police buddies in the unit just in case. went back and the fuzz was there getting ready to write him a ticket. My police buddie talked to them and told the guy they were going to the Quick Trip down the street to get some coffee, they would be back in 15 min, if he was gone they would forget everything. . .I saved the kid a $150 ticket and an $80 wrecker fee. I had been wanting to pull something out of a ditch for a while anyway.

I've got a 2" 20ft "cat rope" got as a safety award.. when I tell the guy I'm about to pull, to put their truck in netural, buckle up and hold on to steering wheel, becuase when I punch it, the rope stretches out to about 25ft... the look on their faces is priceless!!! [sm=escape.gif]

Couple a summers ago we were ridining 4 wheelers when i got my 4x4 polaris ranger stuck up to the seats :-). Well we got a lifted 4x4 F-150 to try and get me but the truck went behind me, against my better judgement and sunk to the doors. He had to climp out the windows. Oh and the truck wansnt even his, it was his sons, but his son was asleep. you snooze you loose. Anyways we got a tractor to try and get the truck but it sunk, then another larger 4x4 tractor, sunk. We ended up getting the ranger out with 2 4x4 honda formans, and 2 polaris 4x4 700cc. Lots of ****** straps :-). Then we had to give up and call a wrecker, we were riding on one of my friends property by the highway so the wrecker parked on the highway and ran the cable down 75 yards to where everything was stuck. We got the truck unstuck, the while trying to get the tractor the wreckers cable popped and shards flew everywhere. That was exciting. He hooked up another cable and we got everything out, after about 5 hours of trying. Oh, and by the way it pays to know the wrecker company because he charged me $50 bucks for all of it.

Careful wih chains. I had a 50 ft pretty heavy duty chain in my 98 Grand Cherokee. I wanted to pull a dead tree out of my yard. It was a small tree with a trunk about 2-3 inches in diameter. I tightened up the chain, put the Jeep in 4wheel drive while I was on the pavement and slowly started to give her the gas. All four tires started to spin on the asphalt. I backed up a couple of feet and then did something really stupid. I floored it. [X(] The chain broke about 6 inches from the trunk of the tree and came back at me like a bullit. It took out my rear window, headliner, rear view mirror, and front windshield. It also just grazed my ear a little. If I had turned my head to look out of the back window it would have hit be square in the forehead and I wouldn't be here writing this.

Went in the house, changed my shorts, and called a gardner to come dig out the tree. He charged me $75. The body shop charged me $4500. No one every accused me of being smart.
