Default Fuel pump question

Hello again....new owner of a 04 single wheel 3500 2WD.....heard from someone that once the original fuel pump( engine mounted) quites, the new has to be installed in the tank and not back on the engine.....i heard $12-1500 bucks just for parts....prob a 1800 dollar job....is this true? Maybe possible hints on getting full life out of the original pump? Thanks
Roy

Default RE: Fuel pump question

Mine failed on me about a year ago and my mechanic replaced it with the in-take fuel pump. Chrysler does not stock the original lift pump any longer due to all of the problems they had with it.

The whole job cost $550, labor and parts. If you pay $1800 you're getting ripped big time.
