Default Dealer fix one thing and break another

The dealer changed my instrument cluster today to fix a problem with my lights, and now my keyless entry doesn`t work. A guy came out with their scan tool, and said it won`t program. I took the truck home, and will go back on monday. Anyone know what it might be? Kevin

i'd guess a wire on one of the plugs probably got pulled out of the socket. I've seen it before, it's easy to have a wire not "click" into the shell during assembly and get pulled out when servicing.

I found the problem. The RKE module that plugs into the back of the instrument cluster is missing. It must be still on the old cluster. I called the dealer and they said UPS already picked up the old cluster. The tech should have known this! Kevin

Where did you get a keyless entry at. How does it look, and how hard is the install.

Thanks,
Garrett

Its just a module that plugs into the back of the instrument cluster, no wiring.

Drew, I am also my own warranty station. But at 46k miles I am glad I have the extended warranty. The instrument cluster is expensive, and needs to be programmed with VIN and mileage. The funny thing is before I took the truck in, I printed out instructions from the service manual and the C-codes I was having. Along with a note stating the instrument cluster is bad. I did this to help them not to screw up. It did make it faster, they ordered the cluster immediately and had it in the next day. From the time I dropped it off to the time it was ready was only 24hrs. Anyway, the $100.00 deductible on my warranty was better then paying for it on my own. Kevin

I guess I should have left a note to swap the RKE module from one to the other.

I love it when customers diagnose their problems, that way when I replace the part and it doesn't fix it, it's not my fault

Wait, Are you talking about the remote didnt work, or like a keypad that you installed on the door. That is what i am looking for, along with automatic headlights. My ford ruined me, i loved my ford.

I diagnosed the problem correctly. Replacing the instrument cluster fixed the problem. Just that the tech either forgot or did not know he needed to transfer the RKE module(receiver for remote door locks) from the bad cluster to the new cluster. I`m not talking about a keypad(tho it would be cool). Just the littlt keychain remote. I have seen before for remote entry a sensor you mount on the dash, and when you tap a certain pattern the doors unlock. Good alternative to the keypad. Kevin
