iraq and soldier taxes
I apologize because this thread has nothing to do with diesel or trucks.
Before my wife left for Kuwait, we sat through about 3 different breifings all of which contained parts that told us that soldiers would pay "NO" taxes out of their monthly pay while in Iraq. One of the breifings was even given by the batallion commander, and his words were, "NO TAXES". Well,, turns out this is a krock of ****,, b/c guess what, shes paying taxes. I told her to go to finance and question it, when she did, she was told by an E-7 that she and everyone esle will continue to pay taxes while they are there. Just one more way to screw soldiers and their families.

usafr... the way the guys who I work with just got back explained it, it goes like this
Gross pay
-taxes
+taxes
----------
Total
if there is a problem, she can check her LES on line at My Pay. (you can too, he just needs to give you her log-in info)
But everything I've seen is that deployed aren't supposed to be paying Taxes at all.
*(this is army, I have no idea what your wife is)

shes Army. I checked her end of monthe LES and it shows that taxes are being taken out and not put back in. As I said before, when she went finance and questioned it, an E-7 told her that she will be paying taxes. I don't understand why they play games with the soldiers, it is just rediculous.
Michael. . .dont be surprize at the end of the month you some how find you have an extra LES and the total of that LES equals the taxes that were taken out for that month
this was how it was done with me when I was in Bosnia, and it was done the same way when half the guys at the shop here went over, instead of two LES's there were three and the 3rd was just to pay back the taxes.

I was a happy camper after I returned from Bosnia, I got the first half of my bonus untaxed, than about two months after I got back I got picked up for a promotion, the best part is it was back dated to about a month after we got in country, that was a lot of active duty back pay[8D]
if you have a MyPay account set-up for your wife you can see when the next LES will hit long before you get the mailed letter. MyPay is how I do most of mine since my civilian job is tied through Civil Service, and I can see my Guard Pay as well I'm usualy e-mailed through AKO when the LES has been posted to MyPay.
but dont worry dood, it will come back to ya, just be patient.

I checked her mypay two days ago,, I proably need to check it again. I don't even look at mine, the only time I use mypay is once a year for my w-2. To be honest, I don't do it for the money (not like its worth it anyway
) I think its fun. She did get promoted as soon as she got over there, so thats a good thing. I'm gonna get passed over for mine this year b/c I went ARPC so I could stay home to take care of my daughter.

Something's definitely not right. All military members serving in designated combat zones receive a combat zone tax exclusion. I spent 7 months in Iraq and didn't pay a penny of federal taxes. I'm a Marine, and I don't know how the Army does it but taxes never showed up on my LES, even as paid and then reimbursed. It might be like Drew said, just keep an eye on it and raise the BS flag if it doesn't get resolved.
the army does thing quite different from the other branches, Ive got friends in the airforce and they have 0 taken out in taxes while overseas. the army is an indian giver. . .they take it from you, earn a little intrest on what they took, then give it back to you keeping the intrest they made.
Didn't GWB "declare the end of hostilities" some time last year? If it's not considered a combat zone, you'll still have to pay the taxes I'm pretty sure. Just my .02
