Default 2001 DC Ram 2500 auto

What needs to be done to get the 2nd gen. autos up to parr? I'm in the process of buying a 2001 Ram 2500 with the Cummins and an auto transmission, they're asking $22,900 with 55,000 miles. I want to mod it some to get a little more power from it. I will be towing with it every once in awhile. (8,000 - 13,000 lbs.) Also, let me know the mods to do first and if there are any common problems with this year.

For starters, ditch the stock trans and get an ats unit (less of a hassel than dealing with a trans shop). First mods would be a set of good gauges tranny temp, pyro, boost. Also get a fuel pressure warning light. Next I would say a FASS fuel setup to get rid of that unreliable lift pump. With that done, then you should be good to start with the HP mods (chips, exhuast, intake, turbo, ect...)

what kind of money are we talking about jakebrake? (for the ATS trans). Is this something that I would take to a trans shop to have installed?
