Default Which Code Scanner?

I want to pick up a code scanner for my 06' Ram 2500 CTD.. Does it use a OBD2 scanner? Any recommendations. Don't need anything fancy. Just something to check the codes and clear if necessary. I started plugging my block heater in and it's thrown a 514 code twice (took to dealership)

that 514 code is an erronious code that deals with the batt temp sensor and the IAT sensor not agreeing with each other.

anyhoo you can go to autozone and pick one up for cheap that will read and clear codes. I think you can also adjust tire ratios as well.

"Smarty" reads and will clear codes in an 06, also tells you in plain English what they are. As a little side bonus you can re-flash your ECM to add HP and Timing if you want. I just did setting #3 and may go to #5 (max hp and torque for a stock clutch) If you do a SB clutch you can go to +170 HP. Not sure if you would need a pusher pump to feed the rail at that setting. I suspect you would. But at #3 I have a LOT more usable power and NO loss of MPG ( I gained 1+ MPG on the highway) It is a little more $

Can the dealer ever tell that you did this if you have to go in for warranty work?

They say NO. You reflash the stock ECU SW before you bring it into the dealer. Just don't forget.

the dealer probably cannot see the smarty since it programs alot different than the other downloaders. however, if DC dug hard enough in the programming they could probably see where something was changed.
