I've been working on a deal to trade my '68 Chevelle convertible (black with red interior/350 with edelbrock 4 barrel carb/TH400 with floor shifter/classic rally rims with OEM centercaps and rings and BF Goodrich fatties....I know it's not Mopar, or as we say in Maine, Mopah, but cut me some slack cuz a Chevelle is a Chevelle)...
Even if it ain't a Mopar, don't let him screw you!

Yeah: he offered to take the Chevelle PLUS $2500 in trade for a 96 Ram 2500 CTD 4X4 Laramie SLT with plow.

I don't think that'll be happenin... I'll wait a week and then offer him 13K for the truck

I finally figured out how to resize the pics, so here are a few.....the rest will be in a gallery that I am making so I can post it on the sales forum and see if I get any bites. I'm thinking of putting it on Ebay also.

How much are you looking to get for it?

It's a really nice car. I'm surprised that after spending so much time working on it that you now want to get rid of it.

Thanks. It is a nice car, and unique, especially up here in Maine. But the thing is, I only get to drive it 3-4 months out of the year, and the rest of the time it sits in the garage. I don't really want to get rid of it, but I think it deserves a better home where it will get the rest of the work it needs to finish the resto. Anyway, when I got this car in 1995 I had no: a) wife; b) children; c) 28-ft travel trailer; d)driveway and private road that the town doesn't plow; e) house that needs to be maintained; f) 5 cords of firewood that needs to be hauled and stacked every winter. So trading it or selling it and using the money to get a CTD will take care of all those practical concerns, and will still allow me to drive something that kicks a$$ all year long.

Had it professionally appraised, came in at $15,500. That's worth at least a 97 or 98 CTD Ext cab in very good condition.....

I strongly recommend that you try to find a 1 ton dualie quad cab. A good 1997 or 1998 12 Valve should be available for 12-15 K. If you get the Auto, try to find one that has had the trans and TQ beefed up. If you are going to do any plowing, the dual rear wheels will really help. The dual rear wheels make towing MUCH safer, as there is no loss of control if you blow a rear tire while towing a heavy trailer. I won't ever go back to a 4 wheel truck for towing.

That's something I hadn't thought of. All I was thinking about was how much it will cost every time I need to replace the tires on a dualie.

Can you plow with a RWD dualie, or do you need a 4X4? Do you need chains if you don't have 4WD?

You will need input from others, I don't do any plowing in Bakersfield CA.

HoweverI know that I can go just about anywhere a 4WD can go. My RWD has Positraction, so I think that if you get a Positraction Dualie, and put some weight in the bed you could probably do some light plowing. Others on here will have a lot better data for you, as I am sure no expert on plowing. The last plowing I did was 22 years ago in Wyo. with a 2 & 1/2 ton truck.

The cost of 6 tires instead of 4 is a factor, BUT, after blowing my RR tire on a 4 Wheel 3/4 ton Ford Camper Special on a curve @ 60 MPH pulling my race car, I am really a believer in duals. the 100 yards of 30 Deg. left drift before it slowed down enough to straighten out and stop really raised the pucker factor. I hate to think of what might happen to someone with the same problem that doesen't spend a lot of time sideways in a dirt car. I also found out that Car Trailers don't "drift" worth a damn, and really try to turn the truck around.

Towing safety is something I think about a LOT; I pull a 28-ft travel trailer. The TT can be replaced, but the really precious cargo is in the back seat. My daughter is 4, and my step daughter is 8. I had a panic attack the night before we bought the trailer because I found a chart that listed safe trailer lengths for various wheelbase lengths of the tow vehicle. No one ever talks about wheelbase and trailer length when they talk about a vehicles towing capacity. They only talk about weight. Well, my wife fell in love with the 06 Jeep Commander, so that was what we had to get. Fortunately, she liked the one with the Hemi...
It's a great Jeep, but the trailer is longer than what its wheelbase can handle easily. Consequently, whenever we go camping it's a long trip because I hang out in the right lane at 50 mph, and I keep one hand very near the trailer brake controller.
So far so good, but by next summer I want to have a safer tow vehicle. The cost of an extra two tires is nothing when I think about what it would be protecting.

Thanks for your words of wisdom, Ralph. I am a safe driver, but I don't spend much time sideways in ANY car, and I don't want to. The dualie is looking better and better.

The dualie is looking better and better.

Of course you could always convert a 4 wheeled Ram to a dually fairly easily ya know.

Just helping you with your options !!

oh, man...too many options.
When you say "fairly easily" what exactly does that mean? I don't have the tools or experience for that kind of thing.
