Default Gonna test the new mirrors tomarrow

Gotta pull a car trailer, maxing out the class 5 reciever. Will be nice to have the tow mirrors. Also using this to say farewell to the auto trans. Got an g56 lined up to put in when it finally goes

I got 3.55's in it right now with 255's tires. I think I wanna go to 3.73 with a gearvendors overdrive. Always liked the idea of a twelve speed

How I wish 3.55 or 3.42 were available for my truck (front and rear), or better yet the GV OD if it was affordable. IF you tow heavy most of the time you will love th G56, if most of the time you are running the highways empty..... you'll see. Good luck and let us know how it works out.

My bigggest thing is i've burned up 3 autos. 1 in this truck, 1 in my first car, and 1 in my old chevy. I sold the car, got a built auto for the chevy which then put your head through the rear window. I don't want to do that in this truck. What gears, tires, rpm are you runnin. I'm lookin to see what gears to buy when I do the swap.

Just to let you know, the mirrors worked great. The trans of course slipped several times and got hot!

I'm all stock. 3.73:1 gears, Mich 265-70/17 tires, at 70 MPH I am running 2275 RPM. At 78 MPH I am running about 2500 RPM. The RPM's are great when towing my camper, but when cruising the higway empty fuel economy suffers above 70. I think a good compromise would be 3.55 or even 3.42 gears for me. In January AAM is supposed to be coming out with 3.42, for the 11.5 rear axle, if they have them for the front as well, I may change. If you plan on running bigger tires you might be happy sticking with the gears you have already.

Like you I don't care for an auto in a heavy truck. I made the mistake of getting the Torquesh_t tranny in my last Ford and regretted it the whole time I had the truck. 7 visits to the dealer and the end result was a rebuilt unit that slipped if you stuck it hard towing. Manual is the only way to fly in a vehicle with torque and horse power like ours.

I can't fit bigger tires without spacing the duals apart[:@]. I wanna run 2000 rpm at 70mph with the 255's without the gearvendors

I'm stock with the same gears, tires and I'm running 72/73 mph at 2000 rpm. I'm curious as to why the difference in speed at same rpm? Would my Rokktech timing sensor make that much difference?

WOW that sounds like a MAJOR job to swap from an auto tranny to a stick !! Did you have to get the clutch pedal and stick set up from a yard or something?

I'm getting all my parts from a truck wrecking yard. Great guys there, I told them what I wanted to do and they started putting together a list of parts. Of course I'll take pics when I do it. I'm trying to baby the auto for now because it's cold out. I'm hopeing it will last until spring.
