question about diesel
at work we have a diesel tank for filling the machines. the skidsteer and the dozers...... is this diesel safe to use in vehicles? i think i rember at some point being told it is red and if you get pulled over the cops can stick a stick in ur tank and if it comes out red u can get introuble or something. but will it hurt my truck if i use it? will it effect performance? cuz i wanna use it cuz ill get it for free ....that was kinda confusing...if it needs clearing up lemme know...thanks everyone

It will burn the same - but yes, it's illegal for you to use it over the road. That's because your employer does not pay the same amount of taxes on it as they would for fuel they use driving down the road - using it driving down the road is a form of tax evasion which if you get caught, could land you in a place where you the only thing being driven won't be your truck...(yikes)

i would love to avoid the $2.79 per gallon cost of diesel tho [:@]...but i guess paying $2.79 is better than not driving the truck and id also be paying more in tax evasioin fees and bullSit than if i just paid the $2.79. thanks for the advice ram
Bit the chances of getting pulled over and dipped are extremely low. I knew a guy who had a tank in his bed he filled up with red diesel and ran a seperate line to the engine off it. When pulled over he would tell the cops he used that tank to fill his tractors and such.
Red Dyed Diesel is refered to as "OFF ROAD" diesel and it is for heavy equipment, farm machinery, ect.... it is not subject to Highway Tax. It runs the same as on road diesel but it can dye seals and rings in the fuel system. The dealer or any mechanic shop can determine you used red diesel when doing mechanical work. It usualy takes about 4 to 5 tanks of regular un dyed diesel to clean out the fuel system.
