Default Transmission Cooler Lines /Temp Gauge

Need help; I’m looking to install a transmission temp gauge. Does anyone know what line is the hot/output line from the transmission, and which is the return? Also is this the best place to install the sending unit? This is going in a 2006 with a 48RE trans. Thanks

KCCTD, I posted an oem line that had a specific port in it to receive a sensor.
I just can't find it right now.
Also there is a port on the side of the transmission that will allow you to install there also.

Th eoem line looked the best and from memory was not too expensive.

The front line is the hot line. I used the replacement line from www.massdiesel.com In my opinion this is the best location, you get the hottest reading there.

I agree with placing the sensor in the cooler line and bought the replacement from : http://dieselmanor.com/dm_products/DM-CLG3.asp for like $65. (Thanks DBLR)

Install was quick and easy. Shoved a couple shop rags in while I was hookin the new line up and prob only lost 6-8 oz of fluid (which mostly ran down my arm and pooled in my arm pit) so not much clean up in the garage!

Works great, norm op temps I see are about 135 highway and stop and got in town is 150 - 180 or heavy foot Ive seen as high as 190-200. Drops back to norm quickly which is comforting to see it respond quick like that.

There is def. something to be said about placing the sensor in the cooler line. Quicker more accurate temp reading. $0.02

I'm using the massdiesel.com line as well. V good results, quick response time on the gauge.

This is great information, thanks.
I have two more questions then.
1) What is the silver little box that the hot line goes too before it runs to the cooler?
2) The hot line has a 5-6 inch rubber line on it before it goes to the silver box, can I just cut that an install a brass T with the 1/8 fitting?
