4WD in reverse only!?
Hi all,
Been a long time reader/lurker and picked up a ton of good info for my 96 2500 CTD, but had a question and decided to join to see if anyone has any insight for my prob. We got our first major snowstorm here today that led me to discover that I have no 4WD (so much for the stealerships $300 "peace of mind winter svc" a few weeks ago!). The wierd thing is that the front diff engages properly when tranny is shifted into reverse. Works in 4H and 4L perfectly. If I put it in D, 2 or 1 the front diff does not engage. Tranny works perfect in 2H so that eliminates tranny in my mind and trxfer case works perfect in R...What gives? Any ideas?

Doesn't make sense.
Any chance your axle disconnect is the problem? Transfer case is engaged or not engaged, and has a vacuum switch for the CAD.
No brake problems (heavy pedal), vents shift from floor to dash to defrost, etc with no problems?
I'd hate 2 think that you have a transfer case problem
Good luck with your ride.
