Default Replace 2amp with 3amp

I had the dealer install an aftermarket dvd player when i bought my truck. when i turned the dvd on today it blew the 2 amp fuse that engages the relay to the starter. i tryed 2 other 2 amp fuses and everytime i turned on the dvd the fuse would blow and the starter would not engage. i then tried a 3 amp fuse and so far everythig is ok..... do you think it will damage anything if i leave the 3 amp fuse where the 2 amp is supose to be?

you could if you draw too much current thru the wiring for that circuit. generally the wiring can handle more current than what the fuse is rated for so I'd keep an eye on it but you should be ok...

Like Steve said you may be all right but I would take it back and make them find out why it does this. Heck you did pay to have it installed the correct way did you not?

the thing here is that if the original circuit draws 1.75 amps & you add the accessory that draws 1 amp, you'll blow the fuse every time. I would look at the manual and see what the current draw is on the new piece and go from there.

Why not hook up an amp meter and measure it???

you could... yank the fuse and put the meter across the terminals... then you'll know exactly how much is being drawn...

of course you wont know about any current spikes unless you use the min/max function (if your meter has one)

I talked to the service manager. he is going to send someone out to my work tomorrow to fix this apparently they put the dvd on the wrong circuit.
