ecm replacment advise
Good grief, I bought 1999 ram 24V 2500 in Aug. Started high rev after start and hitting throttle. Had to turn off and restart to warm up. Then would not rev past 1200 rpm. until very warm. Every morning.. Took to a turbo diesel shop. diagnosis is ecm. They suggested taking to Dodge. Dodge wants $2,100 to fix!!!! I found a internet source (World Auto Parts) for $400 for the part. Dodge is $1,600 or $1,800. Do these remanufactured parts work as well as and can they flash it to match my current settings. They also said I can send in mine for under 300.
Can anyone advise me on the best step for getting my truck on the road? I can wait for a mailed part if it will just be a bolt on.

I'm pretty sure you would just need to tell them what year and they could program it accordingly.
I just have to ask this, but did the shop by chance check out and make sure the APPS isnt sending a false signal to the computer?

Thanks Drew I cannot say for sure yet. I will ask them. They have a great reputation from the deisel owners in town. The dealers send lots of their work to them. I am glad I found this site. It has been very informative. I kept hoping it was a ground or the throttle sensor. But I have had two ECM diagnoses.
so the origional problem is the truck goes to nearly full throttle when you first start-up, then once warm it will only rev to about 1200rpm?
that does sound like an ECM issue, I just hope you dont have a hot ground somewhere that is the main cause of this.
the 2nd gen 24v's are natorious for chaffing wires that cause the trans to shift irregularly and also makes the torque converter lock and unlock. then the main engine ground has a nasty habit of corroding causeing funky things to happen. if they havent looked at these it might be a good idea to look the truck over from front to back and make sure none of the wires are corroded of chaffed.

(Different problem, but along the same lines)
We had a truck in our shop a few months ago that wouldn't start. No crank, no dash check ect. Had power to the ecm on the proper wires. Changed ecm with test ecm, still no go. Found that it was a sensor shorted to ground. The ecm shut itself off to protect itself from the shorted sensor.
