Gears
Has anyone changed over to 3:05 to 3:55 rear end gears? I don't tow much, so I don't really need the 3:73's and I would like a couple of more MPG. The most I tow is a 6'x12' enclosed trailer with a 4 wheeler in it. Possibly a car trailer with a buggy on it. Nothing large.
Thanks,
Steve

RE: Gears
Steve,
I am not sure what rear you have ina 2WD but in the 4X4 it is an 11.5 in the rear and 9.75 in the front. I have looked at several sources and the lowest (numerical) ratio available is the 3.73. I would love the 3.05s you mentioned or even a 2.73. 1st gear is useless in my truck. If you need a really low 1st, you have 4 low for extra gear reduction. And, for those who poo-poo "highway" gearing, there is always 5th! I feel the gearing in these trucks is a real mess. There is no reason for this truck to be screaming like it does going down the highway.

RE: Gears
I've got a old 91 with 3.07 gears probably because it came with the 3 speed automatic. The only thing I tow is a 6x12 with two 4-wheelers in it. I set the cruise at 70 which equals about 2300 rpm. If no head wind I get 20-21mpg towing through the mountains of Utah and Montana. It's only got 118,000 miles on it
