I have the red, Permatex Hi-Temp RTV silicone. Says it is okay for oil pans, so will that do the trick here? Also, I have been told that there is a magnet inside the housing that needs to be cleaned. True? False? That is why I am pulling the cover off. Want to make sure there is no metal shavings in there.

Any tricks on refilling would be greatly appreciated.

Yes on the magnet, no need for the permatex as the gasket is re-useable on the 3rd gen's, not sure about the 2nd gens.

when refilling, I made myself a funnel extension and poured through the wheel well.
