Default Hi I am a newbie with a 2006 mega cab deisel

Hi I got my first Dodge truck about 3 months ago it looks sharp drives great but the fuel mileage is low about 11 to 15 I do a lot of towing, My 97 ford 6 pac deisel towed the same loads and allround mileage was 15 to 17 the dodge has 11,000 miles on it and the display went from 18 to 19 running around but really getting11 to 15 took it to the dealership to update a week ago the monator started working again it was 22.5 when I got in the cab, run around town and hauled the trailier (9,000) about 40 miles flat ground montor was staying about 18-19 went up a hill about 3 mile 5 persent and mileage dropped to 14 and did not come up filled up got 11.8 reset the computer drove another 115 miles with out the trailier got 12. Yesterday I filled up hit reset on all the monators drove 55 to 60 on cruze and in city about 20 miles and every time it showed under 20 I reset the computor it would jump up 2 to 6 miles ,going down a hill of about 1 mile I reset and it jumped to 38.3 but leveled off at 22.5 to 24 on the flat. the point is when I got back to the station that I had filled up at that morning I put in 5.1 gal and I had 99 miles on the odo for 19.8 So this truck will rock on the mileage if I can fixthe problem with the montor/cumputer
Any Ideas out there?
Richard

I wouldn't feel to bad as of yet. I just bought an 07 and am getting around 14-15 unloaded driving around town if i keep my foot out of it. u have to remember diesels get better with age. however going all the way down to 11 is a bit bad. make sure u had the tow/haul mode turned on i know that will make a difference by keeping in the correct power band.

Welcome to DF... It usually takes time for the mileage to start climbing but at 11k you should have seen it start by now. One thing that will help is using the Drews Brew as we call it... info on it is found at the top of the forum.... have a look and give it a shot.

I remember when mine was brand new, I was getting like 13-14mpg,, now I average 18mpg doing about 75 and not driving easy. Today I drove to see family a couple towns away on the backroads doing 60mph,, I averaged 20-21mpg,, and I have a little over 14k miles now, so don't worry too much,, it'll get better.
