Default cruise control woes

I got a question for ya.

When I engage the cruise control the truck slowly accelerates 10 to 15 mph over the set speed (takes about 3 minutes) then slowly settles back down to the set speed (another minute or two). Any ideas on how to solve this problem? I have a '96 2500 cummins. A friend had a '95 2500 cummins with the same problem, so I have to believe that this is somewhat common.

My first guess would be low vacuum due to bad check valves and cracked lines. The line to the cc unit may be cracked. It's a hard plastic line that is tough to diagnose without a vacuum gauge.

My second thing to look at would be the trucks grounds. Just incase the TPS has a bad ground. That can cause erratic happenings too....lol.

Good luck with your ride.

I should mention that after the initial setting difficulties, the cruise control willwork properly...at least until the truck is turned off. The colder the outside temps are the worse the problem becomes. In winter I don't even bother to try to use it.
