Default Muffler Install?

I should be receiving my MBRP factory muffler replacement today. I plan on doig the install this weekend. I took a look under the truck and noticed the factory muffler was really clamped on there good, to the point that the pipes are crimped. Does anyone have any tricks they can share to help me get it apart without cutting. I want to be able to go back to stock if I need to.

not only is it clamped on but, mine had a rivot on the cat side of the muffler.

It's not easy at all trying to get the pipes apart from the factory clamps. The easiest
way would be to cut it out. I decided to try and work one side off and it took me at least 30 minutes to do
and some heavy cuzzing.

I wouldn't worry about reinstalling anything, make your life easy and just cut it off. Once you see how heavy the stock set up is.... you won't want to go back ;-)

Ty, that rivot is only an alignment marker for the exhaust since the cat has a slight bend in it.

if you dont have access to a fire wrench, or sawzall you could always undo the clamps, wrap some rope around the muffler, and the other end around a tree, crank the truck up and pull forward untill the truck gets real loud

Drew, I know you said that tongue in cheek, but I already considered it! Or I could rig up a block and tackle and use the drive shaft as a winch.

OK guys I got it in today. What a bitch getting the old one out. The factory clamps were 1/4 inch deep into the pipe OD.

FYI.... the MBRP kit (MK96116) is not exactly a bolt on kit for the '06 trucks. I had to cut 5+7/8 inches off the front end of the tail pipe to make it fit right. A guy on another site had the same problem and MBRP told him he would have to cut. Now that it's all in and neat, the sound is not quite what Iexpected, it's better than stock, just not what I thought it would be. We'll see if there are any improvements in power or MPG. Drove it around the block in my neighborhood, but I'm the go slow guy when I'm around houses and kids. Maybe I'll get to wring it out tomorrow.
