Completely normal kemosabi. Our Rams have an intake air temperature sensor that below 45 degrees, the truckpcm initiates 2high amp draw heaters. Looks like your bread toaster. This super heats the air to aid in cumbustion. These intake heaters are what replaced the old, per cylinder, glow plug.
The heaters cycle on and off because the heaters,.... heat a lot of air, very quickly. And they want all available power.....lol. Like dat freekin Start Trek.....lol. They heat the air, the sensor is satisified, and the pcm opens the grounds on a few relays, and the heaters turn off. Heaters go off, air gets cold again, heaters back on.
Anyway, you get the point, I'm sure. You are seeing the "voltage end" of business watching your gauge. It's working as it should. That volatge drops when the heaters turn on. That big draw, coupled with the heavy battery drain that just occured for cranking the starter, gives the system a voltage drop. That's your needle swingin left. When the heaters turn off, everything brightens back up, eh?......LOL. Needle goes to the right? .....I'm just breakin chops.......slightly.
Hope that helps. If not, crack a beer and ponder. It's also normal for the other gauges to drop/raise. Their voltage is suffering too....lol. Everything is affected.
