Default Dome light Diming

Has any body had an issue with the dome light dimming when the truck is idling after start up? Do allot of paper work while waiting for the truck to warm up. I currently have 8500 miles on my 2006 CTD. I noticed this about a month or so ago.

I have heard that the alternator is a switching alternator and will turn on and off depending on the load that is applied. Does this sound right? I am a first time CTD owner.

My Freightliner doesn't have this issue so I am concerned.

This dimming during warm up is the engines grid heater cycling. You will notice it more on cold days. Its doin its job

O I FORGOT!!! Without the gtid heater on cool or cold mornings it would smoke like train. The grid is used instead of glow plugs. no maintenance!
