Gelling fuel question...
now what mod are you going to do Steve? It gets down to 20 or below like 1 or 2 times a year by you?
or are you going Bio?
We already know that you're Bi. But now you'll be Bio. ha ha ha

I'm wondering if it is a fuel tank heater. . . .
normaly when it nears the winter months refineries will begin mixing in #1 into the #2 to lower the gelling point.
if the fuel has already gelled you can get some PS911 that is in a red bottle that will ungell diesel.

going to put an inline fuel cooler with a fan on it. just wanted to know what to expect in the winter. I did this mod on my last 3 cars/trucks (bmw 325,bmw m3, and my 2000 ram) all with good results. low to midrange power bump with a little bit of mileage increase... the 2000 ram got a 6% bump in mileage. Duramax's have them already but no fan to cool them down much. one group added a fan to their cooler and got pretty good results so I thought i'd go for it. Living in Sacramento, temps in the summer are often in the high 90's to low 100's which will heat soak the fuel in the tank. running a cooler will drop temps 50+ deg if done right. I figure I will throw a switch on the heater to disable it in the summer, then enable it in winter so it can do it's thing.
anyways that's the plan...

Hey guys, correct me if i am wrong. We all know the benefits of #1 fuel, as far as lubrication and anti-gelling properties, but it is illegal for use, is it not? If you have a mix of the red dye with the blue and you, by chance, got checked, what would your defense be??
the #1 that is being mixed is for on road use. and #1 is closer to jet fuel (JP8) than it is to actual Diesel.
the red dye is mixed in also at the refinery, however it is stored only for off road use and not mixed unless it is mixed by the consumer.

I mean who's to say that you "had" the truck working off-road and then added clean diesel or vice versa. Either way, it's an untaxed fuel.
Not worth it if you're in an area that is known to check for it.
Agreed. The money you would save could be insignificant to the butt raping fine you would have to pay if you are caught.
Another strange not out here is Communist California, Diesel #2 has dropped below super unleaded in price. At least in my area. The Shell station next to my work is selling Diesel #2 for 2.639 and Super Unleaded for 2.849. Gas and Diesel prices confuzzle me.

back in the 80's and 90's fuel stations couldnt give away diesel, now they charge and arm and a leg for stuff that is the by product of the refinement of oil for gasoline.
Yeah, but look at waste cooking oil now.
You used to have to pay someone to come pick it up. Now people will pay to take it from you and will press charges for you taking it.
