Drew-I've thought about that, but after the Flowmaster Cat-back I had on my Hemi and listening all day to my straight-piped Kenworth w/ a Cummins 550 in it, I'm kind of enjoying the quietness in my truck. I guess, at 25 y/o, I'm getting old...lol.

hummm, motor upgrades to get a hemi to 500 hp vs 500 hp on a diesel... no comparison... the diesel is the way to go. if you dont like the power it puts down, with the push of a button you can add plenty. want mileage, push it the other way. It is a no-brainer if you ask me...

Dude......3 gal of oil at 7.5K with dino oil or up to 15K with synthetic. That is still the same amount of oil as a gas motor, just at greater intervals. So that's category is a wash. But, you do only use half the oil filters.

Now fuel filters......change that at 10 - 15K. That's a $14 item at Geno's or $42 at the stealership.

That's your maintenance brother. Everything else is same / same.

Range to fill ups. Normal driving I push low 500's. On the highway, I can be in excess of 600 miles between stops.

And......the fact that you have the power to pull the nuts off a rhino.........friggin priceless!

Get the big dog and be happy.

Fleet Guard oil filters, Never buy Fram filters of any kind or put one on any diesel engine that is unless you have $$ to buy a new one. As for oil 15w40 Deleo 400, Mobil Delvac, Shell Rotella, Valvoline Cummins Blue. If in the winter time it gets below 10 degrees then switch to a lighter winter weight oil, I thinks its 10w30 for yours but you would have to double check to be sure. You can go from 7500 to 10,000 miles in between oil changes.

No you don't have to use additives but it's a good idea to use between a pint up to 1 qt of 2 cycle, ashless TCW 3 oil to 30 gal of diesel to help lube the fuel system.

Carl,

Do yourself a favor and take the thing for a test drive. 100,000 miles is nothing toa properly cared for Diesel motor. However, check the rest of the truck out. Make sure the interior and stuff does not look likea cat gave birth in it. Take the time to really test drive it. Drive it on the freeway, city streets, etc. Check out the brakes, transmission, etc, etc, etc. If the have a used 5.7 Hemi, test drive that one too.

Asking the folks here if diesels are good (and better than a gasser)is like asking Rosie Odonald if Twinkies are on top of the food pyramid! We tend to be a bit bias heretowards engines with no spark plugs.
