Cumminalong, I appreciatethe lesson in backspacing. I have had issues with this in the pastwith a muscle car I built, as you know these dayswe all seem to wantto cram the biggesttire on as possible.

MrSlug, I would be more than happy to keep with a stock rim, but I thought I would have a problem with running that tire size. Are you running a 17X8 rim on your 33X12.5 XTerrain ATs? Again I am a rookie on truck rims, so any information would be greatly appreciated. If you have a picture of your tire and rim combination that you would be willing to share I would greatly appreciate it.

The way I look at it, as I've had the same issue in the past, whatever tire size that a manufacturer says will fit on one of therer lift kits, I go one inch smaller.

This gives you room for good flex while off-roading, gives you the option of disconnecting sway bars, using long travel shocks, etc.

My last truck was up on a 6" Skyjacker that should have cleared 37's. I had 36" TSL's on it and they would rub under full lock if the truck was flexed hard.

It just gives you a little wiggle room.

The Rim I am running is a Procomp 7089 17X8 with 0 offset and a 4.5 backspacing. I also have a 3" pro comp lift in the front so I have zero rubbing issues. I have seen others use the stock 17X8 rim to mount the 315 BFG. Some say it has a rounded look, but I think it just looks like an oversize off road tire (like it should) on a 17X8.

Also consider the rubbing issues mentioned. Most heads will install a 2" level kit (spacers, new springs, etc) which allows for 35" tires and no rub. Also if your truck came with a snow plow prep package, you then have the HD springs and most likely will not need the level kit.

Most tires shops I know will do a test mount on your stuck rim. Then just move the steering wheel lock to lock (while moving) and see if it rubs.

A few pics:

Thanks for the pictures, it is a big help to see what you are talking about. Most tire shops will allow you to test mount, but I am ordering through Sams Club because of the savings. Which means if you order the tire you own the tire. Maybe I can get one of the local tire shops to match their price, or come close as long asthey will do a test mount. The power of being the buyer!

I will try to post a better side shot. I know I have some somewhere. If you are going to get them, get the 18's and not the 17's. The 18's seem to have some better tire choices that are rated for higher loads.

Yeah, that looks good. I'm not necesarilly looking at just those wheels. I'm actually looking for a set that is mostly black, but has the outter rim / lip area still silver.

It'll be a while anyways. My truck is gonna be sitting for almost 2 years. I'm not taking it on my little trip to South America, so it won't be a big priority.

Only time I'll get to drive it is when I'm home on vacation. Otherwise, I'll just have the wife driving once in a while.

I'll be suffering through driving my Focus while I'm there.
