IIRC, the HMMWV has a GM diesel.

 

And that diesel is the most raggedy POS on the planet. With no turbo, that thing ain't got the sack to get out of it's own way. [:@]

Hell, even the civilian Hummers are gutless. We had a loaded out Civvie version over in Asscrackistan and it was almost as gutless as the the mil version.

 

Ok I must have been reading where someone put a four cylinder cummins in one and got confused.

I should have know better, with a cummins in them, it would have been a bad *** machine and everyone would have said, damm them things are fast

 

yeah the hummers in iraq suck *****...i just recently got out of the marine corps and was in the infantry, and had the pleasure of being assigned an official "driver" for my squad leader, and let me tell you something, with all the weight they add on to those things, that little 6.5l just doesn't do the trick...our battalion commander got a brand new hummer over there equiped with a banks turbo system on it, and that thing flew compared to my hummer i drove...still nothing compared to the cummins though

 

I imagine the newer HMMWVs will be coming with either larger engines or those Banks type systems... I do know, if you pull the govener off you can get the things going up to 80-90 mph... (and yes, those are up-armored ones too)

 

You're thinking of the vid of the HMMWV that they dropped a Cummins 4BT in.

They chained it to a Super Duty and proceeded to bust the front drive shaft out of the SD. After the HMMWV drug it around for a bit.

 

Nope! The fleet Hummers and militaryHMMWV's are still getting the non-turbo'd 6.5L. Only the H1 Apha's are getting the d-max and allison combo.

The only problem with yanking the gov off is that they overheat like a demon. Nowhere near enough cooling capacity.

The only way that they are getting Banks stuff on the HMMWV's is if a unit is footing the bill. The up-armored ones do have some suspension and electrical mods, but not Banks stuff. He musta got the "VIP" version. [:-]

 

yeah i know, i guess i've never seen one with the banks turbo other than that one...and i agree...the cooling systems do suck on those things...we never got to tinker with them too much so i never had the chance of taking the governor off, but i could imagine they would overheat like a ****...they overheated even with the governor! but then again, i beat the living ba-jesus out of mine too, so i'm guessing that doesn't help matters at all!!

 

He was doing convoy escort, so he was having to keep up with the 18-wheelers... no idea on VIP or not.... but he took a pic of the speedometer eh, I just looked again, I think he got it up to about 75mph, not 80 mph....
