Cummins 6.7 mpg

123,907 - 123,558 = 349 Miles
349 Miles / 14.893 Gallons = 23.43 MPG
The wind drag on these truck is impressive... But its really surprising to reduce the speed and watch the MPG climb rapidily. Here is a simple write up I did in regards to MPGs...

Here is my fuel logs...

I tried to open your sites. In both cases I was lead to a table of contents, but nothing there opened....

14.4 average since I bought the truck, but that's not entirely accurate - I've owned it since July 2010 and put 17k miles on it, the first 5k of which were towing a ~15k pound trailer across the country, which really killed my average.
My last tank that I remembered to get a receipt for and inter into Fuelly, was 18.5 MPG hand calculated. That's mostly freeway but not easy on the throttle and I drove through two rainstorms with heavy winds.

Has anyone had a power loss in the new 2011 dodge cummins ? I had a 2006 5.9 and traded it for the new body style in 2010 and drove the truck to 50,000 km and then traded it in for a 2011 long horn 1 ton. the 06 was a 2500 and the 2010 was a 3500. both trucks pulled my 40 foot 5th wheel hoiliday trailer that weighs 17,500 kgs. the new truck has all the same gearing but cries any time i am climbing a hill. the truck powers out and struggles. Never had a problem like this before, very diappointing. Anyone else have this problem with a truck under 10,000 km ?

6.7 engine surge
I just bought a 2007 3500 6.7 a/t and wow, what a hoss! Got 200,000 on her and noticed that when at a stop light the engine starts loping, or surging, and as of late, also when I start it up. I, sometimes can relieve this symptom , by "goosing, or slightly racing the motor. However, this does not alleviate the problem for long. I also noticed that, about the same time, my fuel mileage went to ?#%& (14 mpg-14.7 mpg) I am a very conservative driver, and seldom drive more than 65 mph. ANY IDEAS?

your EGR and DPF are the cause.
find yourself a delete programmer and a new exhaust system that eliminates the DPF. (don't even try to eliminate it without a delete programmer or your truck will go into limp mode)
delete those two pests (which is illegal btw, so if you need to pass inspections or emissions, keep them around and put back on just for the inspection...)
once you delete them, truck should run a lot better and economy will have an instant improvement by as much as 6mpg.
if you want to try and fix the problem without deleting the parts...hook to a heavy trailer and pull some long hills as fast as you safely can...work that engine HARD. you want it to get up to 1200*+ in the exhaust and hold those temps for as long as possible...that will help burn off all the caked up soot in the Diesel Particulate Filter (exhaust component) so it will flow more freely once again. the hotter you can get it the better...
as long as those components are still on your truck, babying the truck is the absolute worst thing you can do to it as that is the cause of the soot build up and the economy drop...work that truck hard and drive it like you stole it till you can get rid of those parts...soon as you delete the parts you can baby the truck and have no harmful repercussions from it.
also FYI this is something that only the 6.7L have to deal with...none of the 5.9L ever had that problem as none of the 5.9L came with emissions controls other than a cat at the most, which 98.5-02 didn't even come with that...
