Default 99 3500 4x4 cum5.9 5spd tranny popping?

Any help out there about my 99 1ton w/ 5 speed manual tranny?

Trans pops and scares the crap out of you once in awhile driving hwy speeds.

I have to haul a load 200 miles in a few days and am not liking what we are hearing.

Cant afford aroad side break down but load has to go.

Any answers or knowledge out there for me would really be apperciated.

happening in 5th gear?

5th gear is a common problem with the NV4500s. the nut that holds 5th gear on is notorious for backing off and allowing 5th gear to fall off...

so if 5th is what is causing your issues, you need to open up the gearbox and tighten up that 5th gear nut with some lock-tite.

It has happened 3 or 4 times now and I do believe we were in 5th.
Twice it knocked the transfer case lever in the floor board into neutral is why we thought it might not be the 5th gear issue.

We have to deliver an order tomorrow pulling 20k 200 miles and coming back empty with a 7500lb trailer.

Hope we have no issues,do not have time to go into tranny before load.

Well now we ran it in 4th gear loaded to Orlando 160 miles and its popped 5 times.
Now it's aging a grinding noise on the last 2. Sounds like its getting ugly.
Will have to pull tranny and transfer case.
This is where a side business that makes a small income needs a back up truck.
Ugh

always good to have a backup vehicle. it's only a matter of time before an older vehicle breaks down. Even I have a backup rig lol. if my cummins is down, I have my 87 S10 as a backup rig so I can still go where I need to go.

I do have back up vehilces, just not any that will pull a gooseneck and 20,000lbs.
I guess my post wanting a lil help did not go to far on here but if anyone else has the same thing happening. We checked the fifht gear and nut and all is fine and has been updated with an ole southern spot weld on the nut.
We then took a good look at transfer case and the hi and low fork is shot, pads are gone on both forks a the sleeve the fork rides on is toast. Not sure what caused it but new parts are on the way and as far as we can see their was enough slop to let apiece slide out and cause the popping.
