1997 3500 v10
I am considering the purchase of a 1997 Dodge 3500 V10 automatic two wheel drive that has 103,000 miles. I am totally unfamiliar with this engine other than I knew it was an option back then. Are there any things I should have thoroughly checked or weak points with this engine?
I understand that the V10 was discontinued in favor of the diesel. What kind of mileage can be expected (no tow load)?
Also, I have heard reference to SRT -- is any V10 in a truck an SRT or is that designation for a higher tune engine?
Any and all info and history on this V10 engine will be appreciated.
Thanks,
Randy

Try posting this in the 2nd gen forum. The V10 in the Srt is the 8.3 from the later Vipers. It is totally different from the 8.0 in the Ram Hd's. I have one with 160k on it and have had no major issues with the engine its self. I can tell you it is a pulling son of a gun. As for gas mileage you re looking at 6-10 in town and 9-12 on the highway. Mine has been a great truck. Do post this in the 2nd gen forum. You might get more replies.
