I am getting anew srt-10, need to know stuff
hey guys i am new to this site but i wanted to ask all the srt-10 boys if they have had any problems with there truck . right now i have a 2004 hemi 4x4 and i want to get a srt-10. i know there is a war between srt-10s and lightings ,so i thought i would ask you guys stright up about the problems with them . today i pulled next to a guy in his red srt-10 and asked him he said it was the worst truck he had ever bought . he also said there has been so many problems like the clucth, brakes, 22s rubbing when he hits a hole, fuel problems, and his truck keeps on shutting off at idle. so i was wondering if you guys had any problems like these thanx
Chris,
Welcome to DF. This is the place to come for getting ideas, checking out other peoples rides, asking questions and sharing knowledge. Lots of good people here. Glad to have you aboard.
Head over to the Ram SRT-10 section, subsection of the SRT-Viper section, and check out owners responses. Should be plenty of people willing to share with you. Good luck (on buying an SRT-10 that is).

Yes the clutches are a problem. The only problem with the brakes are that for some people they squeek. The 22's will not rub on anything. I lowered my truck 1" in the front and 2" in the back and the tires still don't hit anything. Don't know what kind of fuel problems that guy could be having except for the occasional EVAP check engine light if you leave your gas cap off. And the stalling is not a common problem either. The clutches are junk though.
You might want to check out the place that I got my Dodge Magnum work on at. Hennessyperformance. you might run up against one of us that have had some major work done and get smoked. They also make a package for the SRT10 truck that pushes 800hp. It is awesome, I saw it first hand when I went to the shop and saw them running my Magnum on there track in Houston, TX and they had SRT10 Truck that was going to Saudi Arabia that was screaming down the track and on the high side of the banks.
Just look at the back of the truck or magnum before you race them. If you see Hennessy below the srt 8 or srt 10, then watch out, you will get to see the tail lights for a short period of time.

Welcome! I've had mine for over a year now and I have had no problems. One thing to remember about clutch wear is that different drivers have different driving styles. It sounds like the guy with the red srt-10 may have a lemon. If by fuel problems he meant poor gas mileage, then i agree. But gas mileage is not my concern.
What year and color are you going to get? Whatever it is, You won't be disappointed!

Yep, we're all very happy with ours as is 99.999999% of all SRT owners. The only clutch problems I heard about are guys on the street that are "shifting impared" drivers (PC term for people who can't drive a manual properly), others who slip the clutch at the strip trying to hook up or owners with serious hp mods. I have added a Centerforce clutch to mine because of the turbo. Mine's lowered too and has never has the tires rub. The brakes are one of the strongest assets the truck has. Yes, they will squeak a little and produce a lot of dust but they are performance brakes and performance brakes do that.
You asked about the old SRT vs L thing. It's a stupid peeing contest that has been beat into the ground. It's very polarized by juvenile pride and overly zealous brand loyalties. The guys that really know better and have been around the block a time or two can appreciate that both trucks are very cool and very fast. Sometimes SRTs are faster and sometimes Ls are faster. It all depends on what has been done to the truck. I prefer the SRT and Mopars in general. Some prefer the Lightning and are staunch Ford fans. Stock to stock the SRT has the advantage. The Ls can be modded for very little moola and gain the advantage. We are just starting to get a good assortment of speed parts available for SRTs that really wake them up. And the prices are coming down all the time. FlyingLow and I have the same turbo on ours. They make insane power and are still very drivable on the street.
Most of these comparisons between the two trucks only take place on the drag strip. That's very one dimensional thinking. Comparing only straight line performance ignores all the other great things the SRT does. It holds the top speed record for a production truck, it is impressively stable at high speed, it can autocross, it can road race, it can carve the twisties on a winding mountain road, it stops as well or better than most sports cars, you get to throw the gears on a 6 spd, it has an beautiful performance bolstered leather interior, the ride is performance oriented stiff but is still quite comfortable on cross country trips, it comes with a 500 watt factory stereo, it has a ton of room inside, it looks great, it is well built and solid, it comes in a quad cab, and, it still kicks butt in straight line performance. It does all of this on a very mild street tune/set-up. There is a whole boatload of untapped power in these things.
Hope this helps and good luck with your decision.

Gotta tell ya, sometimes men with small we-wes buy the SRT-10 Ram, and then they realize its not a sock roll you can just stuff in your shorts, its a kick in the nuts which they obviously cant handle making the true ***** they are come out.
Now forced induction set ups, show true MOPAR Fever Motivation and *****.
(Unless you really got that much extra $ching ching$ then its just car/mopar enthusiasts.
How can people be so blind and ignorant to continue to compare the F150 L to the SRT-10 Ram.... Thats like saying because a Ford Mustang Cobra with a sh*t load of Mods can go down the track faster than a Viper SRT-10 Coupe makes it a better car. ….Is this feasibly accurate? ABSOLUTELY NOT.... Not In the slightest form... No matter what you do to a Stang, it will never be close to what a Viper Is EVER!... And same goes for the truck comparison. Wake up people please……
The L what so incapable of modern tuck standards it had to be scrapped.
