Default exhaust

Does anyone know what the stock exhaust size for the truck is, whether it is 2.5 or 3in? also anyone had an gains by putting in exhaust cutouts for the track?

Default RE: exhaust

I know the stock exhaust on an 04 is 2.5' from the manifolds to the muffler. I threw a pair of QTP electric cutouts on mine not too long ago. I put 3' cutouts on as I planned to swap the whole exhaust out eventually and use the cutouts with a new setup. I just used reducers to match up the pipes so I could play with them asap.

There's very little room in the stock system for cutouts because of the 4 catalytic converters. Only place to put them is just before the muffler unless you have new midpipes put on. With them placed after the cats like that you won't notice much if any difference at all aside from being loud as hell.

My advice if you're looking for a little power and don't want to spring for headers/midpipes/catback, would be to at least get a new set of midpipes with only 2 cats and put the cutouts on after those. If you put the cutouts on before the stock cats you'll make the check engine light come on.

If you don't already have a set of cutouts in mind check out quicktimeperformance.com
They have a new controller you can mount in the cab and preset partial open settings, or do one push open and close. They've got an led readout to show you how open/closed the cutouts are.

When I asked QTP if I would see any gains from putting them on this truck with a stock exhaust they said I'd probably see some. Frankly I wasn't expecting any more power I just wanted to play with the cutouts, though I haven't had it on the dyno since I put them on. I've used them on several other cars and power gains all depend on how the vehicles exhaust is setup, such as how much back pressure there is and how restrictive the stock exhaust might be.

Hope that helps some. Good luck with the truck.

You got that right, the cut outs will save over a full exhaust. I am doing the exhaust this winter, headers, mid pipes with high flows or cat delete and a Magnaflow. Total will be around $3000 shipped! But those coated headers will look sweet under the hood!
