Default Why do they want to know vin number when ordering pcm

I just noticed on a few sites that when you buy a pcm upgrade they want to know your vin and mileage and all that. Why do they need your vin number? Just curious because i dont want dodge knowing just in case it voids warranty.

I am guessing so they can confirm the engine in the truck. Yes, the SRT only has the V10, but it is likely just standard proceedure. Example, if it was a 1500 the truck could have the 4.7 or the 5.7, the VIN would confirm. Would also tell them tranny and I am guessing gear ratio. Even if DC tried to void your warranty they could not. Just because you ordered the PCM does not mean you are using it or put it in your truck. Could have been for a fellow SRT buddy.

Believe its also used to track PCM prgrams to each truck as well as if any dealer/shop plugged in to the PCM for diags (not to reflash) the PCM ID had better match the truck
