Got a problem, Volant CAI anybody got this?
I've got a 2006 quad cab and my first new mod was the Volant Cold Air Induction sytem. Here the question it has 3 port cut outs for cold air (I'm cool with that #1 cut out for the factory air hole to pull air from the fender well - #2 the hood scoop - But #3 is the question they have a cut out right in the front of the box to pull air from front grill. However dodge has those 2 wind blockers directly behind the front grills that don't let any air through, so as a consequence teh #3 hole pulls all the hot air from the engine that can't escape. Does anyone have those blockers behind the grill still on? Would it be bad if I removed at least the left side wind blocker? and yes, I called the Volant techs they told me that the front one must breath outside air to get the full 36HP thats promised. Need help and/or advice.
Sorry for the delay in responding. Don't get over here much. Rumor has it that the Volant intake doesn't offer much of a HP increase. Maybe none at all.
I drilled several 5/16" holes in the plastic grill protector directly in front of the forward-most intake port of the Volant. I did not install the scoop intake. The scoop was meant to blow cool air over the motor and I left it as it was intended.
I feel like I wasted my money on the Volant. But I'll keep it. Looks good. Sounds good.

Agree with Bob that CAI's in general are over rated for the Ram SRT-10.
To answer the specific question, yes you can remove the plastic piece blocking the third inlet. It is primarily there for looks and some level of high speed aerodynamics.
There are plenty of owners that have removed that or both pieces with no ill effect.
