Default Another new Very Satisfied SRT-10 owner

Hello everyone, I'm another new SRT-10 owner having purchased my '05 a few months ago. I have lots of questions so I'm hoping this will be a great place to start finding answers and to share some info. I guess my first question is a general one, I'm wondering what most of you all would suggest to be the first mod? I'm on a budget per sey but I'd like to start gathering some ideas for my newly purchased red monster. Any info or suggestions would be awesome! Thanks

Depends on if you have an RC or a QC ?

Budget mods

QC: PCM Flash upgrade (X-Metal or DC) best overall mod period. $400

RC: Mids & catback $800

Congratulations on your new truck!!

I have had mine since April.

I put a new clutch system in it, stock clutch is a little weak. If you have the stock clutch do not put to many RPMs on it or you will destroy it. Stock clutch is out of warranty on a 05, part of the 1/12.

Other than cosmetic stuff I am in the process of headers, mid pipes and cat back as torque said. Headers adds quite a bit to the $800 price, $1000-$1900 dependong on what you get. The $800 for mids and cat back assumes you go catless, highflow cats in the mids will add about $200. I have also added a K&N, $50.

As for the Volant, I thought it looked cool at first and was a good idea but talking to other SRT owners just dropping a K&N into the stock box or a cheaper CAI will do just as good. The longer I looked at the intake the more I did think it would look ugly sticking up in the air when showing the engine at a show.

Other things that would be nice to have....
Low dust brake pads, you will find out why fast.
The Viper emblem, looks nice. Many take the RAM off the doors and ad that emblem, I plan on it this winter.
Shifter, 3rd can be tricky when pushing the truck. B&M or xmetal. Hint, if you want to increase hitting 3rd when pushing it hard hold the sifter with your palm pointed towards the passenger door. It will feel strange but it is effective.
Oil breather cap, SRT Rams have a pressure issue that this breather can fix, check out www.roeracing.com
Supercharger
And I am guessing here.... GEN IV heads and intake when Dodge introduces the new GEN IV Viper engine... May fit the GEN III block.....

Thanks I wondered about the clutch. I've had a few times where I was pushing it pretty good and going from 2nd to 3rd was darn near impossible until I backed off the gas and let the RPMs fall. What type of clutch kit did you install, and did you have the same trouble from 2nd to 3rd when pushing it?

The 2nd to 3rd shift issue is well known and most people have the same issue. It can be primarily resolved by upgrading your shifter (as mentioned by 94rt10ohio). The X-Metal shifter is the shifter of choice, Gen II or Gen IV. Upgrading the master/slave and clutch along with the shifter will resolve it completly.

Centerforce is the clutch of choice (up to 750rwhp)...There is a Viper Master/Slave Centerforce clutch / Fidenza flywheel kit available for $1500 from X-Metal or RoeRacing.

First mod list for a RC would be:

Drop in Filter
Mids - The type/brand of mids will be determined by if and what type of header you ever plan to install.
Catback
Shifter

Next....

X-Metal Drop Kit
PCM Flash or Vec2

Next

Clutch/flywheel master/slave

S/C

N/A route - Headers , Stryker Heads, Cam

That is it.

No the clutch does nothing with the 2-3 shift, as stated, shifter. Try the palm trick as well. I bought the kit from Roe.

So my next question is between the 2 which is more bang for the buck the Volant CAI or the K&N CAI?

K&N since its cheaper

CAI's on the RAM SRT-10 have been very controversial. It does improve the sound and can dress up the engine bay. I always recommend to pick the CAI you like the looks of. If you are on a budget and are looking for HP then a drop in filter is the best mod when it comes to the intake. $ is better spent on replacing the mids and catback.

You will find an equal number of people who like and dislike each CAI system.
