Default Van backfires

Here we go again. I know there are many posts about this problem on here but I thought I'd try here. The van is a '96 5.2. When the tank gets below the half way point it starts to stutter and back fire and won't go over 40 mph, sometimes less. I tried changing the Oxygen Sensors, that didn't help. The thing is, the thing seems to run fine with a full tank. I'm thinking it could be the fuel filter, but you have to drop the whole tank. My friends think it's electrical butI don't know. thank you.

Default RE: Van backfires

It's more likely that your pickup tube inside the tank has lifted off the bottom of the tank. Once the fuel level drops 1/2 way down it starts pumping air. Whether you want to or not, I suspect you will be dropping the tank.
